HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -
A Hartford firefighter has been placed on leave after he was arrested on Thursday.
Around 6 p.m. Thursday, detectives from the Hartford Police Department's Vice and Narcotics Division, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team, Connecticut State Police and the FBI executed a warrant at the home of Rafael Diaz.
At the Douglas Street home, police said they found:
- 3.8 ounces of cocaine
- 1.4 ounces of marijuana
- 1 ounce of hallucinogenic mushrooms
- 39 ecstasy pills
- A loaded pistol
- $1,800 in cash
Police said everything was seized from the apartment as a result of the investigation.
"It's a shock to me and the entire department," said Hartford Fire Chief Edward Casaras.
Casaras said Diaz was placed on paid administrative leave as of 7 p.m. Thursday pending an investigation.
"It's a criminal matter, and an investigation is ongoing," he said. "The department will do what is right."
Diaz was arrested on multiple charges including:
- Possession of narcotics
- Possession of a controlled substance
- Possession with the intent to sell narcotics
- Possession with the intent to sell narcotics within 1,500 feet of a school
- Operating a drug factory
"As the investigation is ongoing there will be no further comment by the department until such a time as the investigation is completed," said Hartford Police Chief James Rovella.
