Sharon man killed in home invasion identified

The Sharon man who was shot and killed during a home invasion Monday evening has been identified by Connecticut State Police.

State police said Lucas Vitalis, 23, was shot and killed inside the home of his mother, Rita Vitalis, and state police are now looking for two suspects.

According to Connecticut State Police, troopers were called to the home at 399 Cornwall Bridge in Sharon, shortly after 6 p.m. Monday after getting word of a home invasion with shots being fired.

When they arrived, troopers located Luke Vitalis dead inside the home suffering from gunshot wounds, and Rita Vitalis was tied up and not injured.

The crime scene was secured by responding emergency officials, and Connecticut State Police Western District Major Crimes Squad detectives were also called to the home to conduct an investigation.

State police processed the scene and both physical and forensic evidence was obtained at the home.

Troopers said they were looking for two white men and both had facial hair. Troopers said one was wearing a black T-shirt and light-colored pants.

Detectives determined this was not a random act, and all of the leads and information is being actively pursued.
