BRANFORD, CT (WFSB) -
A tragic accident has claimed the life of a 2-year-old in Branford.
The incident was reported Monday evening in the yard of a home on Laurel Hill Road in Branford.
"It's tragic, you know?" said Will Elaawar, of Branford. "He had his whole life ahead of him."
Unidentified sources said the toddler was on a small bulldozer that his grandfather, identified as Ralph Mauro, was driving and was then run over.
Mauro is the former assistant director of Town Affairs in East Haven.
On the door of the family's home was a note that said, "no visitors, please."
"People always say it happens in the blink of an eye," said Jessica Trammel, of Branford. "My heart goes out to the grandparent, who I imagine feels horrible."
Police said the incident is a tragic accident, but are still investigating what happened.
"Anytime we have a small child, infant or younger, involved in some sort of accident, our detectives investigate it and will have some sort of conversation with the state's attorney to make sure a crime has or has not been committed," said Capt. Geoff Morgan, of the Branford Police Department.
