NORWALK, CT (WFSB) -
A Norwalk man is in the hospital after being attacked by a pair of pit bulls Monday.
According to Norwalk police, the victim, 60-year-old Archie Hillard, was attacked by two dogs who were being walked by a neighbor on Hanford Place around 6 p.m.
Neighbors witnessed the attack taking place and were able to scare one of the dogs off. Police said they used several items to strike the second dog in an attempt to get the man's leg free.
Officers had to Taser the dog nearly a dozen times before it finally retreated into its home nearby.
Police said the owner of the dogs, Nicole Hoyt of Norwalk, had given permission to a friend to take them for a walk, and both dogs were supposed to be on a leash. The larger dog, who attacked Hillard, was also supposed to have a muzzle.
Officers said the larger pit bull has been involved in previous attacks on people. She was taken into custody by animal control.
Hillard was transported to Norwalk Hospital for treatment of his injuries.
Police said at this time no criminal charges are expected to be filed.
