Willimantic fire determined to be arson

Posted: Updated:

A fire in Willimantic that sent nine people to the hospital has been ruled arson, according to officials.

The fire broke out at a home on South Street just after midnight Tuesday.

One man jumped from a third floor window to escape the smoke and flames, and his wife needed to be pulled from inside the burning home.

They were sent to local hospitals, as well as a neighbor and six firefighters.

After an investigation, the Windham Fire Marshal and the State Fire Marshal's office concluded that someone intentionally set the home ablaze.

The case has been turned over to the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit.

Anyone with information about the fire is asked to call Connecticut State Police.

A reward of $2,500 has been offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for setting the fire.
