INDIANAPOLIS (WFSB) -
Students in one Indiana school are being encouraged to write out swear words in an effort to curb cursing.
The lesson plan made some parents and students uncomfortable, but it wasn't about educating students about sex or evolution, instead, it was all about swearing.
"Everyone was nervous about it and uncomfortable about it, to write (the words) in front of an adult, especially a teacher," said Indiana student Viazell Gaither.
During the lesson teachers encouraged the students to write the curse words on paper and the classroom's whiteboard.
Then, they said the words out loud in class and explained why the words are offensive.
The teachers said it's a way to teach students what not to say.
School officials said they are standing by the unusual lesson plan because they said it allows the teachers to gain control.
The co-principal said in the past the lesson helped cut down on the about of bad language that students use.
