Police in Vernon are trying to catch a group of car burglars that were caught trying to break into vehicles at the Woodmere Place Complex on Route 83.
Police said the vehicles were targeted on Tuesday night.
David Butler, who lives in the complex, said this incident isn't something he expected.
"It surprises me," he said. I've heard about it in the news, but in other towns."
In fact, police said while Vernon has been hit with car break-ins this summer, it's not alone. Neighboring Ellington and Tolland are also dealing with car break-ins.
Often though, police said, the problem comes back to people not locking up, no matter how many times people have been warned to lock doors and remove valuables from their vehicles.
Vernon police said they can't emphasize enough, the most important thing to do is lock your vehicle and put the valuables away so you're not targeted.
"Since the warmer weather has come, we have definitely had more, we've had a total of 44 since May 1.," said Lt. John Kelley, of the Vernon Police Department.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.

I first saw the headline early Tuesday on Real Clear Politics, a political news site where I generally start my morning. It's not where I expect to see a story on breast cancer.
