NEW BRITAIN, CT (WFSB) -
A serious crash was reported on Route 72 in New Britain on Thursday morning.
Connecticut State Police said the crash was reported before 9 a.m. on the on-ramp to Route 9 north and involved pedestrians.
According to officials, it appeared as though the driver of a car was standing outside the vehicle when a truck driving on the on-ramp crashed into him and the other vehicle.
There was also a gas can on the shoulder of the on-ramp, and appeared as though the vehicle may have run out of gas, which would explain why the man was outside of his vehicle.
Initially, Route 72 was closed so emergency crews could respond, but the shoulder was opened after the vehicles were towed away.
Both drivers were brought to a local hospital and the extent of injuries is unknown.
