Hartford County is now home to another craft brewery.
Back East Brewery has been setting up shop on Blue Hills Avenue in Bloomfield for the past few months, and they're finally ready to hold their grand opening on Saturday.
It's been a labor of love for cousins Ed Fabrycki and Tony Karlowicz since Fabrycki moved back east from California six years ago.
"Found out he has the same dream, which I didn't know about," Fabrycki said. "So we formed a partnership, put together a business plan, raised money and here we are."
They hired a head brewer.
"My mom gave me a brewing kit for my 21st birthday," said Mike Smith, master brewer.
The result was Back East Brewery.
Set at the end of a brick complex on Blue Hills Avenue, the equipment inside is a far cry from the first home brewing system the cousins tried in Fabrycki's Southington garage.
Smith has been working his recipes in with theirs to create the four beers on tap.
"Beer doesn't come from a package store," Smith said. "People actually make the stuff. It's not this magic thing you get from the store. It's a whole process."
Back East is working with Hartford Distributors, and the new brews are already making their way into about 30 package stores and 10 restaurants.
"They're excited," Karlowicz said. "In fact, my wife heard from a restaurant yesterday and they said they've been selling it like crazy."
So the Misty Mountain IPA is just one of four beers you can check out at the grand opening on Saturday, as well as tours to see how they make the beer.
