Farmington police respond to water rescue Sunday afternoon

FARMINGTON, CT (WFSB) -

Farmington police and the Tunxis Fire Department were called to the Farmington River shoreline Sunday afternoon after a man fell 35 feet from a tree branch.

Police tell Eyewitness News the incident happened at about 2 p.m. Sunday after the 39-year-old male victim had been pulled from the river after falling into the river and was unresponsive.

The man climbed up to a rope swing and proceeded to climb farther and jumped or fell into the river.

Witnesses told police that the victim initially came up above water but then went under for about a minute and a half.

Several people jumped in and pulled the man to shore where he was not breathing.

CPR was administered and the victim began having shallow breaths.

The victim was transported to Hartford Hospital, where his condition is unknown at this time.
