FAIRFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
The body of a man was found in the parking lot of a Fairfield business Monday morning, according to the Fairfield Police Department.
The discovery was made around 7:30 a.m. in the parking lot on Chambers Street, which is just off Interstate 95 near the Bridgeport City Line.
Police said someone showing up for work Monday morning made the grisly discovery.
"One of my coworkers called me and was like, 'there is a body in the parking lot,'" said Oswaldo Valentin.
By the time he showed up for work at Universal Thread Grinding Company, Chambers Street was blocked off, police were swarming the area and his parking lot at work was off-limits.
"I went into the shop through the side entrance," he said. "Wasn't allowed to go through the front. I took a peek through the window and there he was, the body was just laying there."
Fairfield police said they believe the incident happened in the parking lot. Throughout the morning and into the afternoon, local and state police snapped pictures and canvassed the neighborhood for evidence.
They did add while there are signs of trauma, they don't believe it was self inflicted.
"It's pretty scary," Valentin said. "With all the (crime) in Bridgeport, we're right on the line. It's scary."
Chambers Street, which is populated with businesses and a few homes, sits right off I-95, close to the Bridgeport City Line.
"(The victim) isn't a resident of Fairfield," said Sgt. Suzanne Lussier, of the Fairfield Police Department. "He's local to the community, middle-aged man and Fairfield police requested the assistance of state police to process the scene."
The incident is under investigation.
