FBI raids housing authority in West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT (WFSB) -

Federal agents stormed Housing Authority offices in West Haven on Tuesday morning, seizing files and boxes of documents from inside, and now the mayor is calling for the voluntary resignations from all of the commissioners.

"They're taking files out, packing stuff up, coming in and out," said witness Angelica Ortiz. "It looks like something is going on."

While details of the raid have not been released, West Haven Mayor John Picard released a statement and said he has been in contact with HUD since December.

Picard said HUD has been conducting an ongoing financial investigation and he received HUD's Financial Assessment report in late June. At that time, he said, he met individually with the commissioners and separately with the executive director regarding the report's contents.

Executive Director Michael Siwek announced his plan to retire at the end of the summer and Picard said he requested the voluntary resignations from all of the commissioners so "we can move forward with a goal of greater oversight, management and accountability at the Housing Authority."

Neighbors said the resignations are a good idea.

"They're not doing their job correctly," Ortiz said. "So maybe they need a little investigation to see what's going on and where our money is going."
