Bridgeport police say DNA evidence has tied a 53-year-old man to the 1980 killing of a woman found strangled in a city park.
Detective Keith Bryant says Leonard Jackson was served with a murder arrest warrant Thursday at Garner Correctional Institution in Newtown, where he's serving a five-year sentence for selling drugs. Jackson was later arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court and bail was set at $1 million.
Police say the new DNA evidence links Jackson to the killing of 30-year-old Stella Brantley, whose body was found in Seaside Park on Oct. 30, 1980.
Brantley was among six prostitutes killed in Bridgeport between 1977 and 1984. Police say Jackson is a suspect only in Brantley's death. Another man was convicted in four of the five other killings.
