A Hartford woman faces numerous charges for a home invasion in Barkhamsted, but this wasn't just some random break-in.
Police said Maria Pacheco was at an intersection in Granby when she was sideswiped by a vehicle driven by John Mihalkek.
Officers were called to the scene and the two exchanged information, but that was only the beginning.
The next night, police said, Pacheco got Mihalek's address from the accident report, went to his house and barged her way in.
Mihalek, 87, said she kept asking him for money.
"She just kept saying she needed to get her brother out of jail," he said.
Pachecho's brother, Matthew Erazo ended up in jail on the day of the crash because he was with his sister in the car, and when police ran his name through a computer system, they said they learned he was in violation of probation.
When Pacheco showed up at the home, Mihalek said he was home alone and scared that she was going to harm him.
"She started grabbing all the phones and smashing them," he said.
Mihalek said he finally managed to call 911 from a phone in the bedroom, and he said she caught him and fled the scene.
However, police said, she managed to steal a pair of his pants and his wallet.
She was arrested and chances are if she couldn't afford to get her brother out of jail, she most likely won't be able to get herself out either.
Mihalek said that's somewhat reassuring to him, but he's still scared to be in his own home.

I first saw the headline early Tuesday on Real Clear Politics, a political news site where I generally start my morning. It's not where I expect to see a story on breast cancer.
