STAMFORD, CT (WFSB) -

A 14-year-old died in a dirt bike collision with his 16-year-old brother Thursday afternoon.

According to police, the brothers were riding the off-road bikes near Long Ridge Road. The property is owned by the city of Stamford and is a former leaf recycling facility that is unused and heavily overgrown with brush.

Vehicular access to the property is blocked by concrete blocks. The crash site was approximately 1/4 of a mile from the Long Ridge Road entrance to the property.

Stamford 911 received a call at 1:51 p.m. from an adjoining property owner who reported hearing cries for help.

Both brothers were discovered severely injured by first responders, and were both transported to Stamford Hospital. The 14-year-old was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries sustained in the crash. The 16-year-old brother sustained life-threatening injuries and is listed in critical condition.

Police said the investigation indicated the vehicles approached each other head-on and collided slightly offset.

Anyone with information is asked to call Stamford police.
