Standoff suspect to appear in court

EAST HARTFORD, CT (WFSB) -

The man charged in a police standoff in East Hartford will be in court Friday.

Police said Luis Garcia, 40, tried to strangle his girlfriend early Thursday morning.

He then told officers he had a grenade and locked himself inside his Higbie Drive home.

Neighbors were evacuated from the area for hours before Garcia surrendered peacefully.

Investigators searched the home and found no weapons.

Police said he has a criminal history and has served jail time previously.
