Woman dies after car crash on Route 7

REDDING, CT (WFSB) -

A woman from Ridgefield has died after a three-car crash on Route 7 on Friday.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. Friday in Redding, just north of the Ridgefield town line.

Police said a car that was traveling southbound on Route 7 was struck head-on by a vehicle traveling in the other direction.

Police said the driver of the car that was traveling south had to be extricated from the car. She was taken to Danbury Hospital.

Police said the woman, who has not yet been identified, was initially in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead at the hospital early Saturday morning.

The driver and passenger of the other car were also taken to the hospital, but both suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of a third car also involved in the crash was not injured.

According to authorities, Route 7 was closed for several hours as crews worked to clear the scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
