NEW HAVEN, Conn. (WFSB) -
A New Haven acupuncturist who was wearing a bulletproof vest and in possession of several guns was arrested after neighbors told police that he threatened them.
Police were called to Lilac Street after a man reportedly chased some kids onto a porch at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Witnesses told police that the man, who was later identified as Shunyu Li, 43, ran toward the children and reached into his waistband "as if he was grabbing a gun."
One witness said the man stared at her and ran his finger across his throat before driving off. Another witness said the man once yelled "you point a gun at me, I'm going to shoot you," however, it is unclear who he was talking to.
Police waited for Li to return to his Lilac Street home where he was arrested and charged with second-degree breach of peace and threatening.
Li told police that he had been wearing the bulletproof vest and helmet for a week after his neighbors pointed guns at him.
In Li's car, police were able to locate a Mossberg 715T .22-caliber long rifle and 1,000 rounds of .22 ammunition as well as a loaded Norinco model 213 9X19mm handgun. A loaded Smith & Wesson handgun was also found at the Beijing Acupuncture office in Branford where Li worked.
The vest, helmet, guns and ammunition were confiscated, however Li was not charged with weapons crimes.
