Fire breaks out in Middletown apartment complex

MIDDLETOWN, CT (WFSB) -

Ten people have been displaced after an early morning two-alarm blaze at an apartment complex in Middletown.

Neighbors noticed gray smoke coming from the complex at 151 Washington St. around 4:30 a.m. and notified authorities.

Officials told Eyewitness News the fire started in a dumpster adjacent to the building and spread to the main building.

There is no word on any injuries at this time.

Ten units suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage leaving them uninhabitable. The Red Cross along with employees from River Valley Services are assisting the residents of the complex with food and clothing.

The residents are all clients of River Valley Health Services, which is run by the state Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, however there is no indication of arson, according to officials.
