WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -
Waterbury police are investigating a shooting and robbery which occurred earlier this afternoon.
According to police, the suspect, described as a black male in his 20s, entered Pereira's Package Store at 229 Homer St. with a handgun at 2:20 p.m.
The male demanded money from the store's owner, Frank Pereira, who was also armed. Pereira reached into his waistband and was shot in the right shoulder by the suspect.
The suspect fled the scene without stealing anything and entered a blue mid-to-late 1990s Ford Explorer driven by a black female.
According to police, the suspect was described as about 6' tall with scruffy facial hair and wearing a mustard-colored hooded sweatshirt with gold lettering.
Pereira was taken to Waterbury Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
