WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -

Waterbury police have arrested the driver who they say struck and killed a 90-year-old woman early morning of Aug. 18.

Police said they have charged 18-year-old Marc Santos, of Waterbury, with felony evading responsibility.

Police said they received a tip that Santos had been driving a black 1995 Honda Accord which struck Atkins as she crossed the road at the intersection of Highland Avenue and Bradley Avenue around 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police said Atkins, who suffers from dementia, wandered away from her Waterbury home late Friday night or early Saturday morning. Family said it appeared she may have gotten dressed, grabbed her purse and was attempting to make her way to church, which was not far from the accident scene.

According to police, Santos admitted he was the driver of the car when interviewed and also admitted fleeing the scene after the accident. Santos' vehicle was seized by police as evidence.

Police said Santos' could face additional charges when the reconstruction of the accident is complete.

Santos is currently being held a $100,000 bond and will appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Thursday.

Police said Santos has no prior criminal history.
