A favorite restaurant of Old Saybrook residents reopened Friday evening after being destroyed by Hurricane Irene almost a year ago.
The tropical storm caused flooding in the dining room of the Dock and Dine and damage throughout the building.
"Then I came in the next morning and there was floor boards pushed up, tables and chairs spilled, glass broken, so I didn't know what to say," said Steve Smith, who is the general manager at the Dock and Dine.
The damage was so great that the owners had to close the building for more than 11 months, so repairs could be made.
On Friday, the restaurant reopened to a full house and lines out the door.
"It's been a long, long road," Smith said. "We're finally here."
