A former Windsor Locks police officer was sentenced to five years in prison Monday afternoon for his involvement in the death of a teenager in 2010.
In June, Michael Koistinen plead no contest to charges of second-degree manslaughter and tampering with evidence.
According to state police, Henry Dang, 15, was riding his bicycle in Windsor Locks on Oct. 29, 2010 when off-duty police officer Koistinen hit him with his car and killed him.
Koistinen was driving more than 70 mph in a 35 mph zone when he hit Dang, police said. Police also believe Koistinen was drunk at the time.
After the incident, Koistinen was fired from the Windsor Locks Police Department. His father former Windsor Locks police Sgt. Robert Koistinen, was also fired. According to police, Robert Koistinen helped his son leave the scene.
Robert Koistinen was charged with hindering prosecution and interfering. He was fired from his job in January. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
