WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -

A second man has been arrested by Waterbury police after they said he tampered with evidence following the death of a 90-year-old woman after a hit-and-run accident on Aug. 18.

Juan Sanchez, 21, of 200 Plaza Ave. was charged with tampering with evidence and third-degree hindering prosecution on Monday evening. He was released on a $50,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Waterbury on Sept. 4.

On Aug. 23, police charged Marc Santos, 18, with evading responsibility after police said he hit Nella Atkins as she crossed the road at the intersection of Highland and Bradley avenues about 1:30 a.m. on Aug. 18.

Police said Sanchez was charged because he helped hide the vehicle that Santos hit Atkins with in his garage after the accident. He also replaced Santos' broken windshield and disposed of the damaged one, police added.
