DANIELSON, CT (WFSB) -

A former teacher in Canterbury has been arrested after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.

On June 1, detectives from the Connecticut State Police Eastern District Major Crimes Squad Troop D in Danielson began to investigate the possible inappropriate relationship between the teacher at Dr. Helen Baldwin Middle School in Canterbury and the 14-year-old student.

Eyewitness News has learned that Anderson's contract was not renewed this past summer.

After a joint investigation between Connecticut State Police and the Department of Children and Families, an arrested warrant was issued for Eric Anderson.

Anderson, 30, of Moosup, turned himself in to state police on Friday and was arrested.

Parents told Eyewitness News that they saw Anderson holding hands with the student and texting back and forth with her during a field trip.

"It made us sick to our stomach," she said.

Parents said they called police after witnessing the incident.

He was charged with risk of injury to a minor and was released from custody on $25,000 bond.

Anderson will appear in court on Sept. 13.
