Waterbury police make arrest in attempted robbery and shooting

WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -

Police in Waterbury have made an arrest in the attempted robbery and shooting that happened last Saturday at Pereira's Package Store on Homer Street.

Police say Robert Day of Waterbury entered the package store and attempted to rob the store with a handgun and shot the store owner, Frank Pereira, in the right shoulder when Pereira reached for a gun to defend himself.

Pereira has since been treated and released for his injuries.

Day is being charged with first-degree criminal attempt at robbery, first-degree assault, unlawful discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a firearm.

Day is being held on a $250,000 bond and will appear in Waterbury Superior Court on Tuesday morning.

The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests may be made.
