SOUTH WINDSOR, CT (WFSB) -

A Hartford man found himself in a sticky situation after South Windsor police said he was caught trying to leave a local Target store with hundreds of dollars worth of chewing gum without paying for it.

Officers in South Windsor said they were notified by staff at the Buckland Hills Drive Target that a man was seen trying to conceal $234 worth of chewing gum in a duffel bag and was attempting to leave the store without purchasing it.

South Windsor police arrested the man, identified as Barry Gholson, 54, of New Donald Street in Hartford, and said they also found a syringe used to inject heroin.

Gholson was arrested and charged with larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was released on $500 bond and was expected to appear in Manchester Superior Court on Sept. 13.
