MILFORD, CT (WFSB) -

On Wednesday afternoon, an inmate at Garner Correctional Facility in Newtown was arrested and charged in connection with a 2006 beating death of a Milford woman.

Alexandra Ducsay, 26, was found dead inside the basement of her Boothbay Street home on May 19, 2006.

An investigation into the death revealed Ducsay, who was an aspiring actress and model, suffered significant head trauma and was found in an area of her home consistent with a violent crime scene, Milford police said.

An autopsy was conducted and it was determined that her cause of death was blunt force trauma and the manner of death was listed as a homicide.

Matthew Pugh, 40, formerly of Hamden, was arrested Wednesday after a lengthy investigation conducted by detectives from the Milford Police Department and in collaboration with the Office of the Chief State's Attorney Cold Case Unit and the Office of the State's Attorney for the Judicial District of Ansonia-Milford.

Milford police informed Ducsay's family about the arrest a week and a half ago after two years and six months of waiting.

"Justice for Zan is long overdue both myself and my family are hopeful this individual will be prosecuted and punished under the full extend of the law, allowable under current Connecticut law," said Matthew Ducsay, who is the victim's brother.

Matthew Ducsay would not go into detail about the relationship between Pugh and his sister. However, he said Pugh was Alexandra's ex-boyfriend and they started dating when she was 16 years old.

"We never lost hope this day would come and the person responsible would be held accountable for his crimes," said Matthew Ducsay, who sat a few rows behind Pugh in court Wednesday afternoon.

Police said they linked Pugh to the crime based on DNA recovered from evidence at the scene of th crime. They also tracked cellphone conversations that he had with his cousin in which he talked about covering about the murder.

"Zan was a faboulous sister and an even better person," Matthew Ducsay said about his sister who ran her own charity up until her death.

Pugh has been in jail on unrelated charges, and after being officially charged with this crime, he continues to be held on an additional $2 million bond.
