Central Connecticut coach has suspension reduced

A Central Connecticut State University appeals panel has reduced soccer coach Shaun Green's suspension for the trashing of hundreds of copies of the school's student newspaper.

Green confirmed Friday that his suspension was reduced from 60 days and four games without pay to two weeks and a single game. He served the penalty in the team's 2-0 win over Yale on Aug. 31.

Green has acknowledged he emptied racks of The Recorder newspaper on May 3 because he was upset about a story detailing his team's failure to qualify academically for this season's NCAA tournament.

Assistant coach Paul Wright, who was with Green during the incident, did not have his contract renewed. He also had an appeals hearing and Green said a decision is expected within two weeks.
