GLASTONBURY, CT (WFSB) -

Glastonbury police have confirmed that the remains found over the weekend are those of a missing East Hampton mother.

The remains of Jini Barnum were found on a dirt trail known as Windham Road after a woman discovered the remains while walking her dog Sunday morning. The remains were located in a heavily wooded and rural area, police said.

"It is with a great deal of remorse that I and my family deliver this news. Late last night Jini's body was recovered," Barnum's mother, who lives on the West Coast, wrote on her Facebook wall Sunday night. "We pray that she is in a better place now, happy, and with our Dad. I know she will watch her children grow up to have her best qualities. Her amazing heart, and passion and her love. Jini you will forever be missed, and never forgotten. We love you."

Barnum, 30, the mother of a 6-week-old infant, was last seen on July 28 after getting in a fight with her boyfriend, Anthony Garofalo. He told police that Barnum stormed out of their apartment on foot after an argument about her drinking and driving.

The state medical examiner has ruled the cause of death as homicide, police said.

Police have not ruled out Garofalo as a suspect last week, however, he is currently in lockup on unrelated charges.

Glastonbury and East Hampton police, along with the Connecticut State Police Major Crimes Unit, are collaborating on the investigation.

Investigators have not said if there was any clothing with the remains or how long they think they have been there.
