MOODUS, CT (WFSB) -

People lined the streets of Moodus to welcome home Lance Corporal Jacob MacKenzie who was returning from Afghanistan on Sept. 11.

The town held a welcome home ceremony for the returning soldier Tuesday evening with several visitors including the Patriot Guard.

"It means a lot and I want to thank everyone for their support through everything including my parents," MacKenzie said. "My parents have been behind me all the way."

MacKenzie said it meant a lot for him to come home on Sept. 11 especially after everything that happened 11 years ago.

"It's just remembering the families and those who gave their lives," he said. "It is a tragic event."
