A motor vehicle accident on Route 30 in Vernon sent one person to the hospital with serious injuries Wednesday afternoon.

One person has been taken to an area hospital by LIFE STAR after being hit by a white Audi and is in serious condition, police said.

The highway was closed from Mount Vernon Road to Vernon Avenue for more than an hour during the investigation, police said.

The driver of Audi, which had extensive windshield damage, was taken into police custody for routine questioning.

Witnesses told Eyewitness News that a pedestrian was trying to cross the street when the person was hit.

The accident occurred near the Grand Luxury Apartments, where residents have complained about speeding in the past.

A shoe was found 40 yards away from where the accident occurred.
