Cheshire woman bit by rabid skunk

Posted: Updated:

The Cheshire Police Department is warning residents to be on the lookout for suspicious animals after a local woman was bit by a rabid skunk while inside her garage.

Police said the Oak Avenue woman was bit Thursday, and needed to begin receiving post exposure rabies treatment.

In late August, police said, a skunk tested positive for rabies after it was killed by two dogs on Lancaster Way.

The dogs were current on their rabies vaccinations, police said.

The Cheshire Police Department and Cheshire Animal Control are reminding residents to make sure their pets are vaccinated against rabies, and request anyone who sees wild animals, such as skunks, out during the day or appear to be sick to call police or animal control.
