Arrests made in connection with Somers mill fire

Posted: Updated:

Three people were arrested today in connection with a massive mill fire in Somers who police said were trespassing on the property 15 minutes before the fire occurred.

The Somers Fire Department and surrounding communities took more than 20 hours to put out the massive fire at the Somersville Mill, at 40 Maple St., in the early morning hours of June 2.

The mill was shut down for decades and was in the process of being renovated when the fire occurred.

No injuries were reported.

After a lengthy investigation by state police, Wesley Hall, 20, of Enfield; Christopher Jackson, 21, of Enfield; and Erin Houle, 22, of Orchard, MA, were arrested Monday. All three were charged with first-degree reckless endangerment, third-degree criminal mischief and third-degree criminal trespass.

All were released on $5,000 bonds and are scheduled to appear in Superior Court in Rockville on Oct. 1.

The state fire marshal is treating the fire as arson.

It's the second landmark in Somers to go up in flames this year.

The Somers Congregational United Church was destroyed by fire New Year's Day.
