PHOENIX (CBS5/AP) -

A high pollution advisory has been issued for Wednesday in metropolitan Phoenix because of a powerful cold front heading in.

The Arizona Department of Environmental Quality said the cooler temperatures are expected to bring strong winds to the area along with potential for blowing dust in the Valley.

The Maricopa County Air Quality Department is enforcing a mandatory "No Burn Day" restriction for Wednesday.

The high pollution advisory also includes the following restrictions.

  • Contractors cannot use leaf blowers on governmental properties on HPA days.
  • Open burning activity is restricted in Maricopa County, including individuals and businesses which have burn permits for open burning.
  • Off-highway vehicles are prohibited from being used.

ADEQ recommends avoiding outdoor activities on Wednesday if you have respiratory problems. The following tips are recommended:

  • Drive as little as possible.
  • Avoid using leaf blowers.
  • Avoid activities that generate dust, such as driving on dirt roads.
