West Hartford Mayor Scott Slifka has proclaimed Wednesday as No Texting While Driving Day.
The proclamation was read between public hearings at Tuesday night's Town Council meeting, according to the West Hartford Patch.
The Patch reported that almost a year ago, two Kingswood Oxford students stood before the West Hartford Town Council to tell them about their fundraising program that they created. Since then, the Patch said, the brother and sister team have been selling trademarked red thumb bands which have Buckle Ur Phone written on it.
The Buckle Ur Phone program stresses the importance of keeping your focus on driving and not on what you're typing out in a text message.
The two students, Noa and Jacob Silverstein, said they have raised nearly $4,000 by selling 6,000 thumb bands.

I first saw the headline early Tuesday on Real Clear Politics, a political news site where I generally start my morning. It's not where I expect to see a story on breast cancer.
