HAMDEN, CT (WFSB) -

A Hamden man was arrested after police said he crashed into a parked car and was found in possession of narcotics Tuesday afternoon.

A driver did not stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Bowen Street and Cherry Ann streets around 3 p.m., police said. Officers followed the car until it hit a parked vehicle on Pond Street.

The vehicle stopped in the middle of the road on Dixwell Avenue and Dorman Street, police said. The driver, who would be later identified as Anthony Herring, 30, got out of the vehicle and fled on foot, police said.

Officers arrested Herring of Howe Street on Dixwell Avenue near Willis Street. He told police that he could stop the vehicle, but did not give a reason why.

While searching Herring, officers found 2.3 grams of marijuana on him. Police searched the vehicle and found an additional 13 bags of marijuana and three bags of cocaine along with other drug paraphernalia.

The Department of Children and Families was notified after Herring told police that his 7-year-old son had been in the vehicle.

Herring was charged with first-degree endangerment, risk of injury to a minor, possession of narcotics, possession of narcotics with the intent to sell, possession of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance with the intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, engaging an officer in pursuit, operating without a license and failure to obey stop sign.

He was released on a $100,000 bond and is expected to appear in Superior Court in Meriden on Oct. 1.
