WETHERSFIELD, CT (WFSB) -
Wethersfield police have arrested the man that they said followed an elderly woman home from the grocery store, broke into her house and robbed her in June.
According to police, an 82-year-old woman had returned to her Pine Lane home after shopping at the Stop and Shop in Rock Hill just before 11 a.m. on June 22. As she was getting out of her vehicle, the woman was robbed in her garage at gunpoint, police said.
Police believe the suspect followed the woman home from the Stop and Shop.
The woman, who was not injured during the robbery, was able to get the license plate of the suspect's Chrysler 300.
Working with New Britain police, Eugene Edwards, 50, of New Britain was arrested by Wethersfield police Wednesday.
Edwards, who has no previous criminal history, was charged with home invasion, first-degree robbery, third-degree assault of an elderly person and fourth-degree larceny. He is being held on a $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in Superior Court in New Britain Thursday.
It is unclear if Edwards has been linked to similar robberies in the New Britain and Newington.
The incident caused Stop and Shop to increase their security and advised shoppers to be aware of their surroundings.
Anyone with any more information about the incident is asked to call Wethersfield police at 860-721-2900.
