COLCHESTER, CT (WFSB) -

A man died after a motorcycle crash in a residential area on Route 149 in Colchester near the East Haddam town line Thursday night.

Police were called to Route 149 near the Starr Road intersection just after 7 p.m. for a reported one-car crash.

The cause of the crash is under investigation. However, police have ruled out that speed and alcohol played a factor in crash. Police are also trying to determine if the driver hit something in the road.

"It's a residential area," said Sgt. James Keeney. "And there's a slight curve in the road where this accident occurred."

Police said the 45-year-old man was wearing a helmet at the crash.

Residents are aware of the area of the tricky curve.

"No doubt in my mind if it was right around the corner there. There's a pretty bad corner there at the top of the hill," said Amber Cromeenes of Colchester. "So if you're inexperienced and don't know the lay of the land, this could happen? Absolutely, easily."

The name of the man is not being released, pending notification.

Anyone with any information is asked to call state police at 860-537-7500.
