MERIDEN, CT (WFSB) -
A teenager has died and another is seriously injured after being stabbed in Meriden on Friday night.
It happened on Kensington Avenue, near the property of the Midstate Medical Center, just after 9:30 p.m. Friday night.
Police responded to the scene after an anonymous caller reported that two teenagers had been stabbed.
Police said the two teens were taken to the hospital, where one victim was pronounced dead. The other victim was then flown to Hartford Hospital by LifeStar medical helicopter. His current condition remains unknown.
Police are not releasing the victims' names at this time, but friends told Eyewitness News that Deandre Felton, 15, was one of the victims. They said the other victim may have been in the eighth grade, but could not identify him.
Friends said both teens had been at the mall earlier, but ended up on Kensington Avenue when a fight broke out.
"We came from the mall, everybody cuts through here," said Felton's friend Chastity Mendoza, "and that's when we saw the kid right here, because people were screaming like crazy."
"I saw Deandre holding himself," said Chauncey Will, who also saw the event unfolding. "They were trying to have him run to the hospital."
Friends said Felton was planning to play football for Maloney High School.
Authorities have not yet identified a possible suspect and are continuing to investigate the incident.
Anyone with information about the double stabbing is asked to call Meriden police.
