A former campaign treasurer arrested on charges she embezzled from the campaign of a state representative has been arrested a second time on charges she stole from a 2009 campaign for New Haven alderman.
The New Haven Independent reports that Sandra McKinnie of New Haven was arrested over the weekend and charged with larceny. She is accused of stealing $2,811 from Liz McCormack, a candidate for the Board of Aldermen. Authorities say she used the money for personal gain, including shopping at Macy's in New York.
McKinnie was arrested Friday on charges she embezzled $4,270 from the campaign of Rep. Gary Holder-Winfield. She was his 2008 campaign treasurer.
She would not comment to the newspaper, but her sister, Valerie McKinnie, said she believes she is innocent. Her public defender said she turned herself in.
