Sources have identified the two men killed in a double fatal shooting that occurred early Monday morning as a father and son.
According to police, two men were found inside of a Toyota SUV suffering from gunshot wounds on South Whitney Street near the Capitol Avenue intersection just after midnight.
It appears that the SUV was still moving when the two men were shot, police said. The SUV would eventually crash into a utility pole.
Police identified the two men as Esmerito Perez-Mendez, 61, and Ramon Perez, 23, both of Hartford. Each man was shot once and were transported to St. Francis Hospital, where they died, police said.
Perez-Mendez and Ramon Perez owned Jr's Convenience Store at the corner of Garden and Westland in Hartford's north end. Memorials have been setup outside the store, which is an area known for gun violence.
"He say I don't have a problem with anything," said Antonio Perez, who worked at the store with his brother Roman. "He have no problem with nothing. I dunno, it's crazy."
Funeral arrangements are still being made at this time, Antonio Perez said.
Police are now searching for witnesses to the crime. Officers are also checking to see if any nearby apartments or businesses have surveillance cameras facing the street.
