Doctor facing sexual assault charges admits to affair with patient

Posted: Updated:

A doctor accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen women at the Clinton Community Health Center is denying that any illegal activity ever happened. However, the married father of four is now admitting to having an ongoing affair with one of the women.

"Dr. (Tory) Westbrook does acknowledge poor judgment in engaging in an ongoing relationship with a patient," said his attorney Norm Pattis Thursday.

Westbrook appeared before the state medical board Thursday to determine whether he would lose his license to practice medicine. He is free on a $1.5 million bond and facing nearly 30 charges of sexual misconduct by 14 different women.

Pattis said the other patients claims were part of routine medical examinations. The state's attorney has patients and other physicians lined up to testify against Westbrook.

"Sadly, we have multiple patients who will describe similar incidents, including that Dr. Westbrook sexually assaulted them, traumatized them and destroyed their trust in him as a physician," said attorney Diane Wilan.

The board hearings began Thursday at the Legislative Office Building in Hartford. The first witness was a patient, who testified behind closed doors.

Pattis said he hopes to get his hands on more medical records and has filed an affidavit from Westbrook Thursday.

"We couldn't be happier with the results today," he said.

The next two hearings are scheduled for the middle of October.
