The Connecticut Yankee Council and New Haven Police Department are warning residents about a scrap metal scam.
According to the Yankee Council website, an individual has been collecting scrap metal for what he is calling is an "upcoming catapult competition" in the New Haven area.
The man is telling people that his son needs the metal for a counterweight, the website said. However, he is taking the metal and redeeming it for cash.
Council has stated the person is not affiliated with Connecticut Yankee Council or the Boy Scouts of America.
The Connecticut Yankee Council carries out the mission of the Boy Scouts of America in Fairfield and New Haven counties, according to its website.
Anyone with any information about the scam is asked to call the Council Resource Center at 203-876-6868.
