While investigating a string of residential burglaries, the New London Police Department arrested a man for growing marijuana in his apartment.
Police arrested Gary Brawn, 58, of 621 Bank St. after officers noticed a marijuana plant growing in plain sight on the balcony of his apartment.
When officers entered the unit, they found several marijuana plants growing in the apartment. Police said Brawn told them that the plants were for "personal use."
"He was cooperative with the rest of the investigation, which led to marijuana plants growing inside his residence as well as marijuana plants growing outside in a wooded area," said Det. Matt Galante.
Brawn was arrested and charged with cultivation of marijuana.
"That's amazing, I don't know," said neighbor John Porter. "It takes a lot of nerve."
New London officers working along with the Waterford Police Department found stolen items from several recent home burglaries inside the 615 Bank St. unit.
Police are working on securing arrest warrants for the residents of that unit.
