Two injured in early morning crash

Two people were injured in a head-on crash in Ledyard early Sunday morning.

According to police, emergency crews responded to the crash at 2:43 a.m. on route 117 just south of the Lorenz Parkway.

Responders found the operators of both vehicles trapped inside and were forced to extricate both. Both victims were taken out of their vehicles successfully by firefighters from the Ledyard Fire Department, Gales Ferry Fire Department, Center Groton Fire Department and Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department.

Officials said Jen Macomber, of Ledyard, was transported by Ledyard Volunteer Emergency Squad to Backus Hospital in Norwich. Ivantilton Pires De Miranda, of New London, was transported by Groton Ambulance to L&M Hospital in New London, and then transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital.

This accident remains under investigation by the Ledyard Police Department. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Off Eric Bushor at 860-464-6400.
