DERBY, CT (WFSB) -
A community in Derby is on edge after a man was shot during a home invasion Saturday.
Police said more than one person made their way into the second floor apartment at the Elizabeth Street home and shot a man inside.
Without a doubt there are more locked doors in the neighborhood after the violent home invasion.
The unidentified 52-year-old victim was shot multiple times, police said.
"I was awake when it happened anyway. I heard a woman scream. I didn't think much of it at first, but then I heard a couple of pops shortly after that and then not too long after that I saw an officer pull up and go down an alley way," said witness Cathy Andrews.
Police said more than one person entered the home, but it's unclear why. Investigators aren't releasing the victim's name, they said for his own personal safety.
"I hope he's alright," said Russell Altimari. "He's a nice man. I know, I see him every morning."
The victim was brought to a local hospital and is expected to recover.
