Downed wires knock out power in Newington

Connecticut Light & Power officials said more than 500 customers in Newington are without power after a dump truck took down electrical wires.

The incident was reported on New Britain Avenue between Charles and Howard streets.

As a result of the incident, police said, New Britain Avenue was closed but was reopened a few hours later. Stamm Road, which is a dead end, remains closed so crews can continue to make repairs.

It was unknown how long it would take to get power restored.

No other information was released.
