Route 7 in Norwalk was closed after a motor vehicle accident that led to a traffic sign falling onto the highway.
The crash closed the center lanes on Route 7 between Exit 1 and the Interstate 95 spilt for hours, according to the Department of Transportation website. The Exit 39A ramp on Route 7 southbound was also closed.
Traffic become congested and motorists were advised to avoid the area.
The crash occurred when a dump truck hit the sign between Exits 1 and 2, according to DOT. The body of the dump truck was in the "up position" at the time of the crash, DOT said.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Crews are expected to repair the sign at a later date.
State police did not know if charges will be filed against the driver.
