Residents in Somers are mourning the loss of one of their own Thursday night.
Nicholas Coleman, a senior at Somers High School, died Thursday night, a day after he was involved in a car accident in East Longmeadow, MA.
Coleman was involved in a one-car accident Wednesday night on Rt. 186 and died at Bay State Medical Center.
"He was fifth in our class," said Patrick Tynan. "He was going to Cornell, Ivy League school, he woulda made a difference in the world."
Friends brought candles and gathered at the high school track Thursday night - a fitting spot for a vigil in honor of the cross country star who also played lacrosse.
"I played lacrosse with Nick my whole life," Tynan said. "And we went to a state championship last year. he was a great athlete, a great kid."
So Coleman's friends, family, school staff and even strangers took one last lap around the track for Coleman.
"He always knew how to make people laugh, every time he walked into a room he brought it to life," senior Cameron Pape said. "It's a horrible loss."
